Preferred Name

Nucleic acid sites, features and motifs

Synonyms

Nucleic acid sequence features

Primer binding sites

Nucleic acid functional sites

Sequence tagged sites

Definitions

The biology, archival, detection, prediction and analysis of positional features such as functional and other key sites, in nucleic acid sequences and the conserved patterns (motifs, profiles etc.) that may be used to describe them. Sequence tagged sites are short DNA sequences that are unique within a genome and serve as a mapping landmark, detectable by PCR they allow a genome to be mapped via an ordering of STSs.
